Art History explores of the material culture of diverse peoples, places and periods in intellectually searching ways. Our general courses seek to introduce students to the various histories of architecture, painting, sculpture, photography, and graphic arts, while our more advanced offerings examine specific historical periods and related thematic problems. We seek to equip Visual Arts students with skills in logical thinking, critical analysis, and public speaking. We aim to promote the study of the history of material culture at the highest level. The minor consists of 18 semester hours of art history courses.
