Theatre Program Overview
Theatre is the most complex of the arts since it requires many artists for its creation: the actors, directors, scene designers, stage technicians and playwrights. This complexity leads many to call it a collaborating art form since it combines the written word of the literary artist, the scenic background of the architect, the speech and movement of the actor and the interpretation, style, movement patterns and overall guidance of the director.
Students in our Bachelor of Arts program gain the necessary background for advanced study (graduate school), professional and non-professional performance, and teaching and directing secondary school theatre programs. In addition, the theatre program offers opportunities to combine theatre studies with other disciplines; some popular second majors or minors include communication, English and fine arts. A minor in theatre is also available.
