Program Overview
Depending on your interests and career goals, you may select from two degree programs in art education. The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in education with multi-age licensure, pre kindergarten through grade 12, is offered through the School of Education and Allied Professions. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) licensure, from the Department of Visual Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences is offered in collaboration with the Department of Teacher Education.
The College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education and Allied Professions combine their resources to develop your knowledge and skills. As part of your teacher education training, you will learn how to make art come alive for students. By graduation, you will be prepared to teach art in various school settings, as well as understand the relationship between visual art and a pluralistic culture in a global society.
The B.F.A. and B.S. programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
When it comes time for you to graduate, Career Services will assist you in securing a teaching position. In some cases, interviews with prospective employers are conducted on campus. Graduates of the art education program average a 95 percent placement record.
