Albert Gleizes (French 1881-1953) Gleizes was a cubist who after a conversion experience around 1917 wished to bring that 20th century art form to the service of the Church. Created during the last years of his life, the 57 etchings for the Thoughts of Pascal are less cubist and more stark than is typical of his work. Gleizes labored to create a community of Christian artists at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence but his efforts failed. His work was seen as too austere even for the priests. |
