The Church liturgically celebrates The Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary as a memorial on September 12. This memorial has been newly re-included in the universal Roman calendar at the most recent publication of the Missale Romanum, editio typica tertia.

In various cultures, the celebration of a Christian name takes precedence over a birthday celebration. Many communities of consecrated life are dedicated to Mary, and members assume the name Mary in addition to their chosen religious name. Such communities celebrate their mutual name day together with Mary as she lifts her Magnificat to God. Other communities such as the Marianists (Society of Mary) have chosen The Holy Name of Mary as their patronal feast.
