He also teaches a course on Faith and Justice in the Religious Studies Dept. Nick received his M.A. in Theology from UD in 1989. Nick and his wife Anne Marie are blessed with three great children. His passions for faith-inspired justice issues and for his family spill over into his avocation as a performing singer-songwriter too. He has released 4 CDs over the years, and has co-written the theme song for the 2007 and 2011 National Catholic Youth Conferences; the 2007 theme song, "Discover the Way," has been published by OCP/spiritandsong.com.

Kelly joined the Center for Social Concern in 2007 after having been the Biology Lab Coordinator on UD’s campus since 2001. Kelly received her BS in Environmental Biology from UD in 1996 and her MS in Biology from UD in 2001. As a student here at UD, Kelly was active in campus ministry and participated in many breakouts and service opportunities. Since moving back to Dayton in December 2008, Kelly has been a MetroParks land stewardship intern, a volunteer youth minister at Queen of Apostle’s Catholic Parish in Beavercreek, a participant of the JustFaith program, a member of the Archdiocesan CRS committee, a member of a Marianist Lay Community, a world traveler (including a visit to Rome for the Beatification of Fr. Chaminade), a volunteer for local non-profit agencies, an instructor for various university science courses and labs (including service learning), an instructor for a graduate course on teaching science to college students, a mentor for graduate students, a member of the service learning committee for SOCHE, and a presenter at conferences and workshops. Now, as the coordinator of community outreach, Kelly enjoys working with student leaders of service clubs, the REAL Dayton, and the MLK Principles of Justice Retreat as well as helping students to connect with our local Dayton community. She also is involved with UD’s “Sustainability, Energy, and the Environment Initiative” (SEE) and enjoys teaching a spring semester mini-course, “Living Simply and Sustainably,” which is inspired by her backgrounds in science and social justice. Kelly is married to Jeff (also a UD graduate), mother of two boys, an advocate for adoption, an advocate for living sustainably (her house has geothermal heating and cooling and a solar hot water heater), and loves being in nature (camping, hiking, walking, biking, kayaking, etc.).

Hi friends! My name is Lauren Farrell and I am thrilled to be working as the Graduate Assistant in the Center for Social Concern. I graduated from UD in 2006 as a Sociology and International Studies/Human Rights Major. Much of what I learned during my years as an undergrad came from my enthusiastic participation in many different aspects of Campus Ministry, including the More to Life Retreat, Women’s Wilderness Retreat, Appalachia Club, UDSAP and multiple Breakout Immersion/Service trips. After graduation, I carried the Marianist principles of community and service with me as I worked in the Twin Towers neighborhood on the East Side of Dayton as the Assistant Director of the Youth Center, and then as I embarked on a three year long term of service- first in Belfast, Northern Ireland, working with marginalized women and children from West Belfast and then on to San Pedro Sula, Honduras where I spent two years living and working at an orphanage. I am very grateful to be back at UD where I am working towards a Masters in Pastoral Ministry. I am also excited to be able to work with an amazing team of Campus Ministers and to have the opportunity to help UD students grow in their faith by learning about social justice and engaging in service to others. If you are looking for a way to get involved in CSC or just want to chat about peace, faith, gardening, cooking, music, books or just life in general, please feel free to contact me anytime! May your year be blessed with much love, peace and growth!
