Student Spotlight: Carmen Vasquez04.17.2013 | Students, Law
Carmen Vasquez has spent much of her career in the Air Force, but it was the two-year J.D. program at UDSL that brought her to the birthplace of aviation.
Prior to coming to UDSL last May, Vasquez served as cyberspace operations officer in the National Guard component of the U.S. Air Force, and was director of program management in the IT department at a community college in Houston, Texas.
"Most of my work experience has been in the US Armed Forces as both an enlisted troop and commissioned officer in both the reserve and active duty components in the Air Force," she says. "While stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, I learned about the summer-start, two-year program offered at the school. That was an attractive program since I could get back to work in a shorter time frame.
"The location of the school in Dayton and its cost of living made the school more attractive than other potential geographical areas."'
Fluent in English and Spanish, Vazquez says she wants to use her law degree from UDSL as she continues her career in the military.
"My immediate future plans are to complete my degree at UDSL and complete my remaining time in the U.S. Air Force."
