Diversity and Inclusion
The University of Dayton holds that the diversity of human perspectives and capabilities is essential to the fostering of educational excellence in the 21st century and beyond. As a Catholic and Marianist community, this commitment to the multiplicity of human ability and experience stands as a firm declaration of love for God’s creative and bountiful handiwork. Devoted to inclusion of diversity, the University calls all of its faculty, student and staff to intentionally honor the dignity of all persons, and to treat each other with the respect to which each is entitled. This institutional mission to value and promote human dignity and respect shapes education inside and outside the classroom, influences the demographic composition of our academic community, and sustains the educational and professional climate in the classroom and workplaces.
The University welcomes you to join us in the building of a progressively more diverse, inclusive and robust learning and living environment.

University of Dayton Statement on Dignity
So God created humankind in his image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
(Gen. 1:27)
A primary assertion of both our religious and civil traditions is the inviolable dignity of each person. Recognition of and respect for the person are central to our life as a Christian and educational community and are what allow us to pursue our common mission while being many diverse persons. Thus, discrimination, harassment, or any other conduct that diminishes the worth of a person are incompatible with our fundamental commitment as a Catholic university conducted in the Marianist tradition.
Purpose of BRIT
The University of Dayton is committed to creating an inclusive environment that respects the fundamental dignity of all human beings. As part of our commitment to building a diverse and inclusive community, the University developed a process to address hate crimes and bias-related incidents on our campus.
A hate crime is a completed, attempted, or threatened abusive or hostile act against persons, property, or an institution that involve a victim, or victims selected on the basis of an Individual’s or group’s actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability of any person.
Not all hateful behavior rises to the level of a crime. “Bias-related incidents” are completed, attempted or threatened abusive or hostile acts that violate the Code of Student Conduct and/or the Policy on Harassment and reasonably believed to be motivated by an actual or perceived consideration of race, sex, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, disability, age, sexual orientation, marital status, military status, veteran status, pregnancy, or any other protected classification.
