In Honor of "Mr. UD,"
We Pay Tribute to Keepers of the Mission.
The Lackner Award is named in honor of Bro. Elmer Lackner, S.M., whose influence permeated nearly all areas of University life. Bro. Elmer, known as "Mr. UD," served at the University of Dayton for 45 years in a variety of roles. When he died in 1984, the Marianist priests and brothers established this award.
The Lackner Award is given to full-time lay faculty or staff who, over a significant period, have made a noteworthy contribution to the Catholic and Marianist character of the University of Dayton.

We Honor Great Catholic Intellectuals
With Prestigious Marianist Award.
Established in 1950, the Marianist Award was originally presented to scholars who made outstanding contributions to Mariology in America. In 1967, the concept for the award was broadened to honor individuals who made outstanding contributions to humanity.
The Marianist Award was revived in 1986 when the University of Dayton announced that it would again present the award annually, this time to honor a Roman Catholic whose work has made a major contribution to the intellectual life. The award includes an original piece of Marian-themed art and a stipend of $5,000.

They Work Behind the Scenes,
But Their Devotion Speaks Volumes.
The Marianist Service Award was established in 1987 by Marianists working at the University of Dayton. Each year, this award honors two full-time staff whose behavior, over a significant number of years, is congruent with the University's Catholic and Marianist character.
Nominations are made by the vowed Marianists who work on campus, members of the Rector's Council and previous award recipients. Nominations are accepted annually during the month of October.
If you would like to make a nomination, please contact a member of one of these groups.

How Do We Define Community Builders?
These Students Use Their Faith to Make World Better.
The Marianist Student Award is named after its first recipient, Maureen Elizabeth O'Rourke. This annual award initiated by the Rector's Council is designed to acknowledge the contribution of a graduating senior who exemplifies the Marianist charism on campus.
Vowed Marianists on campus, Marianist Educational Associates, Marianist Lay Formation participants, Marianist Leadership Scholars, Marianist Student Communities, Campus Ministry and Student Development staff, and the Executive Committee of the Student Government Association are asked to submit nominations.
