CPR and First Aid Classes
Campus Recreation staff will teach based on the American Red Cross certification class for CPR for the professional rescuer including first Aid and AED. Participants who demonstrate skills to specification will earn a two-year American Red Cross Certification.

Lifeguard Course
Are you interested in becoming a lifeguard this summer?
Many pools require lifeguards to become American Red Cross certified prior to employment. UD Campus Recreation is offering a lifeguard training course this spring through which you can obtain Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid certificate valid for three years and a CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certificate valid for two years. Limited spots available, so register today!

Prerequisites / Skill Requirements
- Participants must be at least 15 years of age prior to the final day of the course. Parent signature is required for participants under the age of 18 years old.
- Participants will be required to pass the American Red Cross lifeguarding prerequisites prior to continuing in the course. They should take time prior to the start of the course to practice and prepare. Participants are required to swim 300 yards alternating front crawl and breaststroke. There is no time limit for this portion, however they cannot stop at any point. Participants are also required to complete a brick retrieval skill. Starting in the water, they will swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within one minute, 40 seconds.
- Participants that do not pass the prerequisites will not be permitted to continue any further in the course. A participant must pass all written tests with a grade of 80% or better and successful completion of all skills tests in order to obtain certification.
Registration Details
Registration is open until the registration deadline or until the course is full. Register in person at the UD RecPlex Main Office. Participants must complete the registration form and present a photo ID with birthdate of the participant at the time of registration. If a photo ID is not available, you must present official documentation that identifies the participants age. Participant must bring photo ID or official verification to the first day of class.
To register, bring the completed form and copy of ID to the UD Campus Recreation RecPlex or you can fax your registration form and copy of ID to 937.229.2703 and pay via credit card. Payment may be made via cash, check, VISA, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover.
The American Red Cross Lifeguard Manual is included within the cost of the class. Participants will receive manual on the first day of class. The manual is available to view online at americanredcrss.org if you would like to review prior to the first day of class.
Refunds are subject to approval by UDCR administration. A 50% refund minus a $10 administrative fee may be granted if prerequisites are not met on the first day of class.
NOTE: UD Campus Recreation is an authorized American Red Cross provider and is not affiliated with any private or public pools. Please contact your local pool for employment availability and certification requirements prior to enrolling in a UD Campus Recreation course.
Lifeguard Re-certification Course
Need to re-certify?
Has your lifeguard certification recently expired or will expire in the near future? Then this is the course for you. This course is intended for individuals that need to renew their American Red CrossLifeguarding certification. All skills and written test material (including: Lifeguarding, CPR, AEDand First Aid) will be tested in a challenge format. No review will be provided. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AEDfor Professional Rescuers certificates valid for two years.

To be eligible for the Lifeguard Training Rectification course, participants must have successfully completed an American Red Cross Lifeguarding course within the last 3 years and a CPR/AEDfor the Professional Rescuer course within the last 2 years. Participants must provide copies of certifications at the time of course registration. Individuals that do not have eligible certificates may not participate in the LG Rectification course; they can only participate in a full course.Participants must be at least 15 years of age prior to the final day of the course. Parent signature required for participants under the age of 18 years old.
Participants are required to do the Lifeguard prerequisite swim/skills
•Swim 300 yards alternating front crawl and breaststroke. There is no time limit for this portion; however they cannot stop at any point.
•Complete a brick retrieval skill. •Tread for 2 minutes without using their arms
Completion requirements include: Pass all written tests with a grade of 80% or better and successful completion of all skills tests.
