Swim Lessons
Just for fun, or competition in mind, our swim instructors can help you get there.
Age does not matter, it's never too late to take a swim.
Private Swim Lessons
Each lesson is 50 minutes in length and scheduled on an individual basis with the instructor when the Aquatic center is open.
All skill levels are welcome.
Registration
To register for Private Swim Lessons, please complete the Private Swim Lesson Registration Form.
Once complete, to include the Participant Waiver, you can register in one of the following manners:
1) Email your completed form to arupp1@udayton.edu or fax the form to 937.229.2703; once received, we will contact you and take a credit card payment over the phone; or
2) Visit Campus Recreation Main Office (between 9a-5p Monday-Friday) or the Welcome Desk during operating hours to complete payment. We accept cash, check, VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and Flyer Express.
Once the registration process is complete, a Campus Recreation representative will contact you to schedule a convenient time for your lessons.

Description of Skill Levels for Swim Lessons
| Parent Tot (PT) (Min 2, Max 5) |
For children 1-2 years of age. A parent, who is able to swim, must accompany the child in the water at all times. Children must wear swimming diapers throughout class. Instructors will teach water safety to parents and children, as well as assisting both to be comfortable in and around the water together. Instruction includes games and songs to create comfort in the water, while introducing kicking, splashing, scooping, blowing bubbles, and head submersion (partial to full). Each 50 minute class will include a 5 minute introduction, 30 minutes of water instruction, and 15 minutes for question and answer. |
| Level 1: Intro to Water and Safety (Min 2, Max 5) |
Prerequisites: Children should be able to Listen and follow directions from the instructor and be independent from their parent. For those new to the water; participants must be age 3 by the start of lessons. Learning Objectives: Children will work on submerging mouth and blowing bubbles; grabbing objects from right below the surface; floating on front and back with assistance, as well as jumping in, kicking, scooping, and splashing. |
| Level 2: Water Exploration (Min 2, Max 5) |
Prerequisites: Children should be able to submerge head (partial to full), capable of entering the pool unassisted, and floating on front and back with support. Learning Objectives: Children will work on floating without assistance for at least 10 seconds; rotating from front to back and back to front; alternating simultaneous arm and leg action; bobbing (submerge and resurface); gliding to the instructor; introduction to side glide; and use of kickboards. |
| Level 3: Stroke Preparation (Min 2, Max 5) |
Prerequisites: Children should be able to float unsupported for at least 10 seconds; glide to instructor with no assistance, and demonstrate front and back crawl for a distance of 3-5 yards. Learning Objectives: Children will work on butterfly kick, front and back crawl with no assistance and rhythmic breathing; treading; jumping into water above head level; and side glide. |
| Level 4: Stroke Readiness (Min 2, Max 5) |
Prerequisites: Children should be able to swim front and back crawl for 15 yards without assistance. Learning Objectives: Children will work on deep water object retrieval and swimming underwater; front and back crawl for 25 yards; rhythmic breathing; elementary backstroke; breast stroke kick; treading in deeper water; and kneeling and compact dives. |
| Level 5: Stroke Development (Min 2, Max 5) |
Prerequisites: Children should be able to swim 25 yards with rhythmic breathing, tread water for 1 minute, and be comfortable in deep water to include a kneeling dive. Learning Objectives: Children will work on front and back crawl technique; elementary backstroke; breaststroke; butterfly; introduction to flip turns; and diving off of starting blocks. |
| Level 6: Stroke Refinement (Min 2, Max 5) |
Prerequisites: Children should be able to swim all strokes continuously for 25 yards and complete a standing or compact dive. Learning Objectives: Children will work on mastery of skill for all strokes, to include distance, technique, and stroke refinement; flip turns; and starts from the blocks. |

Parking
A permit is required to park in UD lots prior to 7:30p on weekdays. As such, you may secure a parking permit by contacting UD Parking Services or pay UDCR $15 for the monthly parking permit which allows access to park in Lots S2, C or G. Parking passes will be available at time of your first lesson if purchased. No permit is needed in the "visitors" C Lot after 7:30p on weekdays or on weekends. A parking permit is valid one calendar month from the date of purchase.
