What is Flyer90?

Flyer 90 is a student-run, student-focused 90 day fitness program that combines boot camp style group workouts, planned individual workouts, "The Circle" and nutrition guidance. The workouts consist of comprehensive cardiovascular and resistance training that include circuits, interval training, relays and small challenges, among others forms of exercise.

Our History

After coming back from a reality TV show and dropping forty pounds, José Alejandro Llanos, an 18 year old Puerto Rican, was very enthusiastic about sharing his experience and was determined to continue working on his body and help others experience the great life changes that come after adopting a healthier lifestyle. In efforts to get the ball rolling, he created a program for his floor called “Extreme 90” in Meyer Hall to find others who wanted to work out and live a healthy lifestyle. He later moved this body transformation program to the Department of Campus Recreation.

José started Flyer90 in January 2009 with a co-ed group of twenty students and three personal trainers, participants had three boot-camp style classes and two suggested independent workouts a week.

2009-2010

Flyer90 V2.0 began in 2009-2010. The staff decided to expand the program by creating a beginner and advanced group with seven amazing personal trainers. Without the trainers help, the program wouldn’t have been able to run. The program had the original two boot-camp style sessions, but continued to improve by adding partner workouts on off-days, and the Circle on Fridays.

The workouts consist of comprehensive cardiovascular and resistance training that include circuits, interval training, relays and small challenges, among others forms of exercise. At the end of the year, the first ever awards ceremony was held to celebrate the participants’ achievements. The program had amazing results!

2010-2011

This year, a program journal was added to help participants keep track of their progress, log their workouts, and take advantage of other on campus resources! The staff also added more challenges, partial assessments, and small teams to encourage even more competition. There were small teams consisting of half beginner and half advanced participants; They had an assigned trainer that lead them through this transformation process and supported them through the three months of intense training. This helped to create a stronger community and incorporate the Marianist Charism that the UD community holds so dearly to their hearts. The program partnered with the Health and Sports Science Interns to provide a more holistic approach to wellness and helped to improve the nutrition component of the program. This will consisted of a nutrition assessment fair, and a new email account to offer nutrition advice and consultation, among other things. This was the best year yet for Flyer90 as most participants achieved their goals and had a great time along the way.

2011-2012

Flyer90 inspired many people to take the challenge to the next level and the team is extremely excited for the upcoming year of Flyer90. We are looking forward to improvements for this upcoming year and will maintain the same format as beginner/advanced boot camp style workouts.

The Flyer90 Staff is extremely thankful for all the support they have received from the Department of Campus Recreation, the Office of the President, Student Development, and the Office of Community Wellness. We are honored to work with them and work together to create a healthier campus.
