College is about finding yourself. We're here so you don't get lost.
During times of tragedy, it can be hard to know how to cope and/or help others cope. Below are some resources compiled by the Counseling Center to help those in our community affected by tragedy.

If You're Concerned about a Student
Although college is a time of learning and exploration, there is also the inevitable stress of college life. The University of Dayton Counseling Center seeks to provide opportunities for students to work towards a more balanced life style. As a result, students are freed to pursue a fuller and richer expression of their educational experience.
At the Counseling Center we realize anxiety, depression, and a host of other personal struggles can often prevent students from obtaining their full potential. To help students overcome obstacles and achieve a healthy well-being, the Counseling Center provides individual and group counseling for personal and career related concerns.
"Our team success starts with one step......We got this!"
Interested in being an Ally?
ALLY is a workshop that trains individuals who are interested in joining a campus network of allies to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community. ALLY training includes experiential activities and guided discussions designed to provide knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will help you be an effective GLBT ally. It is free and open to all University of Dayton students, faculty, and staff. UD's ALLY program is lead by Drs. Jennica Karpinski and Shamell Brandon, of the UD Counseling Center, along with volunteers from the UD campus community. A Light Dinner will be provided, as well as a sticker that can be displayed in your room or office to demonstrate that you have been trained to be an ally.
If you are interested in attending the next ALLY workshop, please check back for 2013-2014 training dates

Sometimes, you need to be with others who understand. We get it.
Many times, a challenge you are facing is shared by other students and can be more effectively addressed in a group setting. These problems often include difficulties in interpersonal relationships, depression, anxiety, eating problems, low self-esteem, and difficulties with grief or loss.
Groups typically consist of five to eight students with similar concerns and are led by one or two therapists who help facilitate communication between group members.

Outreach programming is a service provided by the Counseling Center in order to promote the health and well-being of the larger university community. Our staff is available to deliver lectures, workshops, and other programming to your class, group, or campus organization. We offer a wide variety of topics, and we are always expanding the list of topics we cover. In addition to recognition and prevention programming for students, the Counseling Center provides consultation and training in a variety of areas to faculty and staff. We also available for general outreach at events such as health fairs or other campus events.
What topics are offered?
The Counseling Center is willing to provide a variety of workshops and outreach programs including (but not limited to):
- Test anxiety
- Strategies for coping with a roommate/friend's eating concerns
- MBTI group interpretations
- Assertiveness
- Decision-making
- Procrastination
- Stress management
- Mindfulness
Our current offerings are posted on the campus calendar in Porches.
How Do I Request Outreach Programming?
Due to the many responsibilities of UD staff and the large request for services, we request a minimum of ten audience members at each function. Requests received at least one month in advance with at least three possible dates have a greater likelihood of being accommodated. Requests can be made up to one year in advance. Outreach Programming is generally scheduled Monday through Friday. We are able to accommodate events outside of this time on a case-by-case basis.
If you would like to request any of the outreach services provided by the Counseling Center, please fill out the outreach request form at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?fromEmail=true&formkey=dFZ2eTBaalB6Z2dydS1lTUxza3R2elE6MQ
