What is Early Arrival (EA)?
Early Arrival is the need for a student to arrive on campus earlier than that academic year’s published move-in dates. Early Arrivals are exceptions and require a special request.
The approved dates students are able to move in to their University of Dayton housing assignment is usually one or two days prior to the beginning of classes. The University of Dayton housing move-in dates for the 2013-2014 academic year are as follows:
Summer – Sunday, May 12, 2013 at 8:00am
Fall – Saturday, August 17, 2013 (1st year) at 7:00am
Fall – Sunday, August 18, 2013 (upperclassmen) at 8:00am
Spring – Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 8:00am
What is Extended Stay (EX)?
Extended Stay is the need for a student to stay in their University of Dayton housing later than that academic year’s published move-out dates. Extended stays are exceptions and require a special request.
The final date by which students must be moved out of their University of Dayton housing assignment is the Friday of finals week by 6:00pm. The move-out deadline dates for 2013 are as follows:
Spring – Friday, May 3, 2013 at 6:00pm
Summer – Sunday, August 4, 2013 at 12:00pm
Fall – Friday, December 13, 2013 at 6:00pm
When does EX/EA take place?
Extended stays and early arrivals take place between the academic semester contract periods. In other words, they are the dates between the end of one semester and the beginning of another.
Criteria for Extended Stay and Early Arrival
Students approved for extended stay or early arrival are participants in the following activities. Read below for a brief definition of the categories listed. NOTE: Departments sponsoring these activities must request extended stay or early arrival for students participating in these activities.
Orientation
Students participating in a University of Dayton orientation prior to the beginning of the academic semester. This includes, but is not limited to, International Student Orientation and New Student Orientation.
Training
Students participating in training prior to beginning work at a University of Dayton job. This also applies to University of Dayton athletes and band members needing to return early for practice/training before or after the beginning or end of the academic school year.
Work
Approved work includes, but is not limited to, work in a University of Dayton department, Cooperative Education Assignments, and Internships connected to the University. “Work” for the purposes of extended stay/early arrival does not include work in the Dayton community that is unaffiliated with the University of Dayton.
Academics
Students taking classes, doing research, or otherwise working with a professor.
Graduation
Siblings of graduating students are eligible to extend their stay to see their sibling graduate. Sibling status is verified and checked before approval is granted. Relatives other than siblings are not considered.
Behavior during EX/EA periods
Behavior during Early Arrival/Extended Stay Periods: Students who violate the University of Dayton Student Standards of Behavior and Code of Conduct while in university housing during early arrival and extended stay periods may be asked to vacate university housing until the regular housing contract start date. Additionally, the group and/or department for which the offending student is a member may be denied the privilege of early arrival and extended stay in the future.
