Honors Housing

Each group in the Honors Housing process must be minimally comprised of one-half students in the University Honors Program. For example, a honors group of 6 must have at least 3 members who are University Honors students in good standing.

Students may enter the Honors Housing process with only one group. Students can participate in only one special-interest process, i.e., if a student participates as a group member in the Honors process they cannot participate as a group member in the Servant Leadership or Substance-Free processes.

The deadline for completion of the online application is Friday, February 3, 2012 at 4:30 p.m. (see below for details). Each group member must complete a 2012-2013 Housing Application which includes Roommate Group registration at myhousing.udayton.edu prior to participating in the honors housing process (again, see below for details).

Sophomore Honors Suites and Apartments

Sophomore groups can elect to compete in either the four-person V.W. Kettering suite or four-person Irving Commons apartment lottery or the six-person Campus South apartment lottery.

Virginia Kettering Residence Hall

Twelve four-person suites on a first floor section of Virginia Kettering Residence Hall are designated for sophomore University Honors students, six for women and six for men. Sophomore students need to form four-person groups and go to my housing.udayton.edu to complete the individual 2012-2013 special interest housing application and the Group Leader will create a roommate group. The name of the roommate group must start with SO Honors and then state the name of the house group leader, for example, SO Honors, Jane Doe. The Group Leader will email all roommate group members the name of the roommate group and password so that the group members can add their name to the roommate group that the group leader created. The roommate group members will complete the individual 2012-2013 special interest housing application and join the roommate group. While four-person groups have priority, groups may register with members numbering one to three as well.

Campus South

Six six-person apartments in Campus South are set aside for sophomore University Honors students, three for women and three for men. Sophomore students need to form six-person groups and go to my housing.udayton.edu to complete the individual 2012-2013 special interest housing application and the Group Leader will create a roommate group. While six-person groups have priority, groups may register with members numbering one to five as well.

Irving Commons Apartments

Several four-person apartments in Irving Commons will be set aside for interested sophomore University Honors students.

Sophomore Priority Ranking

  • 3 points are assigned to each Berry Scholars and/or Honors student in your group.
  • 2 points are assigned to each Honors student in your group that is currently residing in a first-year Learning-Living Community
  • Housing Discipline Point Values are also used in determining ranking of groups. These point values will add negative points to a group's priority.
  • Points will be summed and the group with the highest total point value will receive the first assignment. This process will continue for all groups until all facilities are assigned. Exceptions are in Campus South and Virginia W. Kettering, where the University determines the ratio of male/female facilities.
  • In case of a tie with above priority rankings, Housing and Residence Life will use the lottery priority ranking used in the general student housing lottery: start term, discipline points, random.
  • Note: Eligibility for housing facilities is determined by the term that a student started at the University of Dayton, not by credit hours.

Junior and Seniors: New Honors Houses

All new Junior/Senior University Honors Students need to form groups and complete online 2012-2013 special interest housing applications which include Roommate Group registration for a Honors Special-Interest/Theme House. Then go to myhousing.udayton.edu to begin the online process. The Honors group must be comprised of at least one-half Honors students. Group size will determine the facilities for which your group is eligible.

Juniors and Seniors: Retaining Honors Houses

Current Junior/Senior students currently living in Honors Houses may choose to retain their housing. The retaining group must be comprised of at least one-half Honors students. Junior/Senior students need to form the appropriate-sized group and complete the online Special-Interest/Theme Neighborhood House application process in order to retain. Group size will determine the facilities for which your group is eligible.

Additional Information

Complete online housing 2012-2013 Special Interest applications at myhousing.udayton.edu which includes Roommate Group registration by 4:30 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2012. Only one application per group may be submitted. Jr-Sr groups are also required to complete special-interest house applications. Students will be notified of housing awards by Friday, March 2, 2011.

Housing and Residence Life will notify groups of their assignments. If a group is not successful in the Honors Housing application process, then the group may participate in the general student housing lottery. Such a group would need, however, to complete application for the general student housing lottery by 4:30 p.m. on March 16, 2012.

Student groups are allowed to replace one person in their group after lottery selection, as long as they maintain the same point total used for ranking that they had in the lottery. If more than one replacement is required or if the new group results in a lower priority ranking, the group risks losing their housing placement in a suite, apartment, or house.

Please note that once an individual housing application is signed and submitted to Housing and Residence Life and a student receives an assignment (i.e. an address), students have only 3 days to cancel their assignment without penalty. After the three days, they cannot cancel except in the circumstances listed in Section 6 of the Housing Contract Terms and Conditions. If a student does not return to UD for the Fall 2012 semester, the student's Housing Contract will be canceled upon receipt of written notification to Housing and Residence Life. A $250 cancellation fee will be charged if written notification is received after June 1, 2012.

The University Honors Program designed this format in conjunction with Housing and Residence Life and in consultation with University Honors students. Honors students who have taken advantage of these opportunities in the past have been extremely pleased with the results.

If you have any questions regarding the Honors Housing process, please notify Housing and Residence Life at housing@udayton.edu or call 937-229-3317.
