Your life as a Flyer begins here.
Starting life at the University of Dayton is exciting and overwhelming, both for new students and for their families. That's why we developed a series of programs to help incoming students make the most of their college experience and facilitate a successful transition into the academic, social, and spiritual life of the UD community.Beginning with the pre-orientation leadership camp and New Student Orientation, students are challenged and encouraged to take their first steps toward deep and meaningful academic and social engagement. These programs involve a rich combination of experiences that include meeting and working with faculty, staff and student leaders, service to the community, an introduction to academic coursework and co-curricular involvement and leadership.
Throughout the academic year, conversations of importance to first-year students are fostered through presentations on topics ranging from establishing healthy relationships to developing study skills.

Think of it as "University of Dayton: 101".
From socials to academic advising and discussions, New Student Orientation prepares new students for their University of Dayton experience.
Held the weekend before the semester begins, New Student Orientation provides students (and parents) with an engaging introduction to the University through community building, as well as academic and social events.
From move-in day and an ice cream social to academic advising and small group sessions, you'll quickly become familiar with our vibrant campus community.

College is full of firsts. Consider this your first assignment.
The First-Year Read is part of the New Student Orientation and will be an important part of some of the first class discussions in your first-year courses.
It is your first step into the primary activities that make the University of Dayton a community of higher learning: reading; critical reflection; open and honest discussion; analysis; and, writing. These academic activities lie at the heart of the life at the University of Dayton.

Lots of things change. But your involvement in your child's life doesn't have to be one of them.
At the University of Dayton, we realize support from family plays a strong role in a student success, and we want you to be involved.
To assist with this process, we are providing resources that you may find helpful.
And each fall, we welcome parents and families to return to campus and experience our community spirit firsthand. Events include a football game, a 5K run, a cornhole tournament, social events and, most importantly, quality time with your student.

They're taking their first steps. You know the way by heart.
There's no question: you love UD. Now you can share your Flyer Pride by welcoming new students to campus.
Orientation chairs, as well as orientation and camp leaders, represent the Office of New Student Programs and assist new students and their families during various transition programs offered. Some positions
require a year-long commitment, usually beginning in January and lasting through Family Weekend the following fall semester.
There are a variety of options, including paid and volunteer opportunities, throughout the year. And you can even be rehired from year-to-year if you choose to continue your service. All students leaders are expected to uphold the University honor code and be a positive role model for incoming students.

Your first lesson begins with a story about an early bird and a worm.
Before New Student Orientation begins, 125 new students have the opportunity to get acquainted with life as a Flyer.
By attending academic and cocurricular presentations, skits that address issues critical to your life as a college student (including alcohol awareness, sexual assault prevention, bystander intervention, wellness and conflict management) and leadership education sessions, you'll enhance your ability to learn and lead. You'll also have opportunities to meet other new students and upperclass students, allowing you to form friendships and find your niche on campus.
To top off an already rewarding camp experience, you'll participate in a day of service in the Dayton community and attend an optional recreational trip.
And since you're early experiences will make you experts on the University of Dayton, you'll serve as Blue Crew members for the official move-in day and help the rest of your classmates settle into life at UD.
You're not transitioning to UD on your own. We're here to help.
