Annette Schemling, RSCJAnnette Schmeling, R.S.C.J., Vice President for Student Development and Dean of Students

Sr. Schmeling, R.S.C.J. became the Vice President for Student Development and Dean of Students in May 2007. Born in Denver, Colorado, Schmeling earned a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts degrees from Marquette University, and a doctorate in Education from the University of San Francisco. Sr. Schmeling entered the Society of the Sacred Heart on August 29, 1983 and made her Final Profession on August 7, 1993.

Prior to her appointment at UD, Sister Schmeling served as Associate Vice President in Student Affairs at Creighton University and the University of San Diego. As AVP, she was responsible for the oversight of the integration of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. Throughout her career, Sister has demonstrated a commitment to the education of the whole person and the recognition of each person’s deepest desire. She helped establish the Ratio Studiorum Program (pre-major advising), Wisdom for the Real World Learning Community and the Alcala Leadership Program, a program that received national recognition as a model social influence alcohol intervention program.
