Technology Support Representatives (TSRs) offer quick-fix and fee-based services for:

  • faculty and staff personally owned computers and notebooks
  • smart phones
  • student notebooks
  • student peripheral devices - printer, scanner, webcam
  • university owned systems
Our fee-based services are more affordable than retail counterparts and our service professionals provide top-quality results. Contact us for help with:

Data Backup

Uses
  • replace data after restoring system to original state
  • replace failing hard drive w/ new drive (backup not always possible if drive fails to boot)
  • transfer data to new computer
Cost
  • Mac - $50 for full Time Machine backup (includes OS, applications & files)
  • Windows - $25/10 GB selected from Documents, Music, Pictures and other files as requested
  • Windows - $100 for all files in user folder including Documents, Music and Pictures
Note: Provide your own external drive so you can keep a copy of the backup.

  • bring your computer in for service at the first sign of trouble

Uses
  • determine cause of system crashes
  • fix application errors & issues
  • patch & update system
Cost
  • Personally Owned System - $10 for diagnosis, $50 for diagnosis & repair + cost of part if applicable
  • UD Tagged System - no cost if serviced by your IT support unit
Note: Upperclass students who were required to buy a notebook from UD receive free diagnosis & free repair when possible.

Hardware Installation

Uses
  • provide guidance to customer for part ordering
  • replace components in out of warranty systems
Cost Parts
  • Personally Owned System - $50 + user provided part for installation
  • UD Tagged System in warranty - no cost
  • UD Tagged System out of warranty - cost of part
Peripheral device installation (printers, scanners and web cams) in UD owned student residence - $35
Best Practices
  • keep documentation, media and receipts in case of need for future service
  • purchase replacement parts from known sources

Uses
  • restore network connectivity
  • restore system to functional condition eliminating errors, pop-ups, malicious code and system crashes
Cost
  • Personally Owned System - $75 
  • UD Tagged System - no cost if serviced by your IT support unit
Note: Upperclass students who were required to buy a notebook from UD receive free malware & virus removal.
Best Practices
  • avoid clicking on ads or visiting unknown Websites
  • do not click links in emails from unknown senders
  • only install software from trusted sources
  • run antivirus scans on a regular basis & update virus definitions frequently
  • bring your computer in for service at the first sign of trouble

  • reinstallation or upgrade of operating system
  • convenience service for installation of available software from software.udayton.edu
  • installation of software from customer provided media or source
Cost
  • Operating System w/ UD standard applications - $50 
  • Supported Software available for free from software.udayton.edu - $25 per visit
  • Software not from software.udayton.edu - $25 first title, $5 each additional title per visit
Note: Upperclass students who were required to buy a notebook from UD receive free OS & supported software installs.

  • use your computer for intended academic or work related purposes only 
  • use a wired Ethernet connection when downloading from software.udayton.edu for faster speed and reliability
