 New Frontiers In Religious Education: A Collaborative Project of: The National Catholic Educational AssociationRationale: Major paradigm shifts in teaching and learning influenced by an evolving infomedia culture call us to consider alternative models for engaging in our catechetical ministries for the 21st century. New standards in education have called for new infomedia competencies for educators. These new requirements are having a direct impact on how students are learning today. A parallel formation and competency foundation needs to be integrated into our catechetical ministries if catechesis and evangelization is to be effective in the 21st century. Goal/Purpose: Goal/Purpose: New Frontiers In Religious Education an annual initiative that identifies twelve parish and/or diocesan teams of three to engage in an in-depth experience for enhancing teaching and learning in our catechetical ministry in light of the new infomedia culture. The New Frontiers In Religious Education (FIRE) Project is founded on the successful New Frontiers for Catholic Schools (NFCS) which ran for nine years. The NFCS has enabled over 600 schools to enhance the quality of their curriculum through the support of technology, design and development of new infrastructures for teaching/learning, and increased funds to support Catholic Education. A significant number of these NFCS schools have become Blue Ribbon Schools in the USA. Finally, many of the NFCS teams have become facilitators of similar workshops, consultation and experiences for teachers at Catholic schools within their own dioceses around the country.
