How Your Gift Radiates

When you support UD, you help amazing students call UD home. These students make a tremendous impact on our campus community.

Maya Smith-CusterAs a first-year student, Maya Custer-Smith embraced every opportunity to contribute — so much so that the University of Dayton Magazine featured her this summer in "Reimagining the 'Freshman 15'".  Some highlights include earning her way onto the dean’s list while interning with the city of Dayton about 20 hours per week. She also helped create a “Tough Talk Series” for students to discuss controversial topics in a civil manner, put together the largest UD Miracle team for “Bill’s (Donuts) Not So Fit 5k”, helped raise more than $55,000 for Dayton Children’s Hospital, was chosen to become a president’s ambassador, and started a student organization — UD American Sign Language Club — with some friends.

Borchers tripletsElizabeth, Michelle and Steven Borchers went to Nicaragua in the spring with the University’s medical brigade to help provide medical care for those in need. Now that the spring semester has come to a close, they are studying to take the MCAT for medical school this summer. As seniors, they will each complete an honors thesis and continue their research projects with professors as they enjoy a final year of volunteering and living in community.

Khadeja Farahmand and Cierra WallerTwo of our featured Flyers are taking off. Cierra Waller is moving to China to teach English for one year before beginning graduate school. After that, Cierra plans on entering the Foreign Service. Khadeja Farahmand, who traveled the furthest to come to UD (from Afghanistan), is looking to land right back here with the UD community she has come to love. First, she is planning on earning her S.J.D. at Harvard while working in public advocacy to advance women’s rights all over the world. After that, she wants to join the UD faculty as a law professor.
