A Legacy of Blessings

Ever-Growing Generosity

As with so many Flyers, Peggy Sedlock Dubrowski ’84 received scholarship support during her time on campus. After graduating, she and her husband, Victor, paid forward this generosity, giving back to the same scholarship she received — the Theresa Enneking Kohmescher Scholarship — for over two decades.

“As you grow up and get away from something, you can start to appreciate the impact it has … I’m looking over my shoulder and thinking about how great the experience was and that somebody else needs it now,” said Dubrowski.

But their support did not stop there. In 2016, they established the Peggy A. Dubrowski Fellowship, providing scholarship assistance to students who are members of the University’s Lalanne Program. Their affinity for Lalanne — a program in the Center for Catholic Education that develops Catholic school educators — ties in heavily with Peggy’s career work as a Catholic school teacher, campus minister and administrator, and reflects their belief in the importance of Catholic education.

“Choosing to be a Catholic educator is a choice for the future of our faith and for the deepest nature of our children. Realistically, it is also a choice that asks for real and ongoing sacrifice on the part of the educator,” she said.

The fund will buffer that sacrifice for tomorrow’s Catholic educators, ensuring that those with this calling can realistically follow it. And the impact of the fellowship will only grow, thanks to a bequest they established in 2018 to support it.

“By providing continual and expanding support to the University — in particular to the good work and programs of the Center for Catholic Education — we hope to alleviate a bit of the financial sacrifice while encouraging young teachers to embrace a lifelong commitment to Catholic education.”

Their bequest ensures that for generations to come aspiring Catholic educators will have the opportunity to make this lifelong commitment and be sparked to begin their own philanthropic journey.
