Communicating Across Cultures: Rome and Prague
June 14 - July 15, 2017
Students will take 6 semester hours total.
- CMS 316: Intercultural Communication (3 sem. hrs.)
- CMM 469: International Public Relations (3 sem. hrs.) OR CMM 499 Special Topics: Video Production (3 sem. hrs.)
This multi-site program is designed to expose students to multiple versions of the European experience in order to provide them with a more complex and deeper understanding of how cultures are shaped as well as important considerations when communicating across cultures. Experiencing two different countries with distinct cultures will provide students with a rich opportunity to apply what they are learning in their courses to two different contexts and thus gain a better appreciation of the concepts.
Field trips, guest speakers, and site visits will both help familiarize students with Italian and Czech culture as well as engage them in the process of learning about communication in international settings.
General Program Itinerary
The program will begin with approximately 10 days in Prague followed by roughly 3 weeks in Rome and will offer engaging coursework in intercultural communication, video production, and international public relations while studying in two of Europe's most vibrant and popular cities.
The program is open to students from all majors.
The application deadline for summer 2017 programs is February 1, 2017. Students are encouraged to apply early as the program tends to fill quickly and results in a wait list.
