Global Languages and Cultures

Enhance your language learning experience.

As a language major or minor, you can choose from several activities to enhance your language learning experience. Participating in one of our language clubs will provide you the opportunity to use your language skills outside the classroom, learn more about different cultures, and share your experiences with other language learners and native speakers. Students studying Spanish have the opportunity to join Sigma Delta Pi, the national collegiate Hispanic honor society.

Arabic Language Club

The Arabic Language Club promotes the learning of the Arabic language and Arab-culture through community activities and social interaction between native and non-native speakers of Arabic on the University of Dayton's campus. The club is an opportunity for all University students to immerse themselves in the Arabic culture through a range of discussions from Arabic media, Arabic film series, documentaries and a weekly Arabic conversation table. To learn more about the Arabic Language Club, contact the faculty advisor, Dr. Aicha Elyamani.

French Club

Our mission is to promote a deeper understanding and greater appreciation of French language and Francophone cultures, provide a place for UD students to get together and speak French and just to have fun. Some of our activities include watching Francophone movies, cooking French cuisine, listening to French music, discussing current events in the Francophone world, or inviting international students to share their culture and talk about their respective countries. New members are always welcome, as well as suggestions for future activities.  To learn more, please email Dr. Nicola Work.

German Club

The German Club provides opportunities for students to learn about the German culture. We host a number of events throughout the year which include game and film nights, cookouts, service events, cultural discussions and sporting events. You do not need to know German.  All you need is an interest to learn more about the culture.
