Language Course Pre-Authorization

All students who plan to take classes at another institution with the intent to transfer the credits to count towards their University of Dayton degree are required by the University to first request permission and receive approval from their dean's office prior to registering for the courses. Transfer credits can only be given for courses with a grade of C- or better.

Students taking language courses while studying abroad that are not taught by University of Dayton language faculty must first have them pre-approved by the Department of Global Languages and Cultures and should follow the procedures listed below:

1. Obtain the Course Pre-Authorization Form from the Center of International Programs in the Rike Center.

2. Make an appointment with the Global Languages and Cultures language section coordinator for the language of instruction (see below). Students will need to bring the completed Course Pre-Authorization Form, information about the institution they will be attending and the course description for the language courses they plan to take while abroad. If possible, also bring the course syllabi.

3. A copy of the completed Course Pre-Authorization Form signed by the language section coordinator needs to be on file in the Department of Global Languages and Cultures.

4. After reviewed and signed by the language section coordinator, take the Course Pre-Authorization Form to the dean’s office of your major for final approval in order to receive University of Dayton credit.

Language section coordinators for the 2017-2018 academic year are:

Arabic – Dr. Aicha Elyamani
Chinese – Dr. Jia Yang
