Summer Music Programs

The Department of Music at the University of Dayton offers the Vocal Performance Institute each year, a summer music program for high school students. The VPI is a week-long learning experience designed for students in grades 9 through 12. UD voice faculty and guest artists from the Dayton Opera and Human Race Theatre lend their expertise. Throughout the week students participate in various workshops and master classes. Participants also receive private lessons and hear faculty and guest artists in recital. Special workshops include: vocal technique and diction; sight-singing; techniques for the musical theater actor; movement for the stage; the art of auditioning; vocal health tips; productive practice and positive preparation; and vocal improvisation and the expressive singer. Participation provides students an opportunity to experience music study in a college environment.

The office of Special Programs and Continuing Education (SPCE), a division of Graduate Academic Affairs, also offers programs in music such as the New Horizons Band for seniors, as well as a myriad of educational programs for seniors and other nontraditional students.
