Sections & Leadership 2016-2017
Meet the 2016-2017 section leaders. They are here to help you have a great season!
Hello, POD! My name is Ada Pariser and I am grateful and honored to serve as one of YOUR drum majors this fall. I am from Crestwood, Kentucky (don’t look it up on a map – it’s too small to be on one). As a junior pre-med major interested in working with medically underserved populations, I am an intern with the National Rural Health Association in Washington, DC this summer. I have been playing the clarinet for nine years and served as a high school drum major for three years; additionally I have worked on the IMPACT staff for the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy for two years. My passion for bringing together the strengths of individuals to create a greater whole is what drives me to be a servant leader for the Pride of Dayton. I look forward to getting to know each of you; but enough about me! If you ever have questions about POD, UD life, anything else, or you need someone to laugh/cry/pray with, feel free to contact me. Going in to band camp be sure to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! And don’t forget that SPF! I look forward to learning and growing from my encounters with each of you. See you soon!
Hey, POD! I hope your summer has been nice and relaxing so far. My name is Zach Zielinski and I am extremely excited to be one of your drum majors this upcoming fall! I am a Sophomore music education student from Chicago, Illinois. Previously, I served as a high school drum major for two years and marched mello all of my other years. I started on the sax in 4th grade and switched to french horn my Junior year of high school. Horn is still my primary instrument, but I do enjoy going back to my roots to play sax in jazz band. For the little time I have that isn’t band, I enjoy hanging out with friends, tossing around a frisbee, and sleeping. If you have any questions about POD or you just want someone to talk to about college, please do not hesitate to contact me! My advice to you: Make sure to get as much sleep as possible before the school year starts, and wear sunscreen! I can’t wait to meet you all! PS. Make sure you always have a good picture of yourself handy so you don’t end up like me… Zach Zielinski
Hello there! My name is Amanda Buechele but everyone calls me Mandy. And just in case you were wondering, my last name is pronounced Beak-lee. I am one of the Flute Section Leaders along with Kayla Pariser! This is my second year being Flute Section Leader! I am a Junior Accounting major from Beavercreek, OH. I have been playing flute since the fifth grade and this will be my 8th year marching and my fourth year with the Pride of Dayton. Outside of POD, I am part of the service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega. I’m so excited for this season! If you have any questions feel free to contact me. :)

I will be a junior mechanical engineering major in the fall with a human movement biomechanics minor. I am from Crestwood, KY (a small town 30 minutes from Louisville). Besides being a member of the POD flute section I am involved in the Engineering Honors Society Tau Beta Pi, Navigators, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and the president of the Biomedical Engineering Society. As section leader I hope to have a positive impact on everyone and encourage new members to join as well. If you have any questions please feel free to send me an email or find me on Facebook! Jenny Meier is from Dayton, Ohio. She will be your Uniform Chair not only for this season but the following seasons as well as one of the clarinet section leaders for the 2016-2017 season. This will be her third year in POD and she couldn’t be more excited to work with such amazing students! Jenny is a music therapy major and is a clarinet player as mentioned before. In addition to POD, Jenny also is a voice major and sings in the Choral Union group, attends service events with the Music Therapy Club and is an active member in Sigma Alpha Iota; a women's music fraternity. Jenny hopes to bring passion into POD, not only through marching and character but how the new uniforms will bring in a new passion to the Pride of Dayton! Feel free to contact Jenny through email or text/call her cell phone (937) 272-2216 and make sure to include your name! As much as Jenny is excited to be a part of POD for her third consecutive year she is also so excited to meet all of the new members! Welcome to POD!
Hi Everyone! My name is Connor Reidy and I will be one of the clarinet section leaders this season. I am a sophomore music education major from Chicago, IL. Feel free to add me on Facebook or send me an email with any questions or concerns.
Hey POD! My name's Kevin Eberle and I'm one of the saxophone section leaders.. I'm a senior mechanical engineering major with a concentration in aerospace engineering. I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio which inherently means I'm a huge Ohio State football fan! In addition to POD I also play in the Flyer Pep Band and am a leader for a collegiate ministry called the Navigators here at UD. I can't wait to meet everyone and get the season started! If you have any questions or need anything please feel free to add me on Facebook or send me an email! Go Flyers!!!
My name is Alexander Paschal, and I am a Junior Chemical Engineering major with minors in Business Administration and Materials Engineering. This will be my third year in the Pride of Dayton, and alongside Kevin Eberle, I am one of POD’s Saxophone Section Leaders. I also play Saxophone in a couple of ensembles at UD other than POD (those ensembles would be Symphonic Wind Ensemble, University Concert Band, and the Flyer Pep Band). I might be in Dayton nine months out of the year, but I still call St. Charles home, which is a city about 45 minutes west of Chicago. Also, I am a brother of and I hold the Sergeant at Arms position in UD’s chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (Phi Mu Alpha is a Men’s Music Fraternity). I’m thrilled for another season of POD and I look forward to seeing all of you in August. If you have any questions about anything (and I mean anything) whether it be POD related or not, feel free to email me or find me on Facebook and message me there (you’ll get a faster response from an email though).
Hey trumpets! My name is Anthony Maiorano and I am one of your section leaders. I am from Clayton, Ohio (Dayton for those who don't know where that is) and a Senior Mechanical Engineering major with an Aerospace minor. This will be my fifth year marching… yes I said fifth year. I enjoyed the last four years so much I decided to take a victory lap. Actually, over the past 3 years I’ve been alternating from being an engineering co-op/intern at Regal Beloit and taking classes at UD. Anyway, both I and my fellow section leaders are excited to meet the new members and prove that no one can match the trumpet section. I enjoy playing volleyball, doing puzzles, reading, and spending time with family. Anyway, I am the one who always has a smile glued to his face. (And yes I'm Italian!)
Hey POD people! My name is Ashley Mercs and I will be serving as your CEO Apprentice for the 2016-2017 marching band season. I am a sophomore in the Business school and double majoring in Entrepreneurship and Operations. I am from the town of Kettering just fifteen minutes up the road. I am also in the great ole’ trumpet section in POD and will be one of the section leaders this season! One thing you should know is that the funk march is my favorite part of POD. Outside of POD, I am in the Flyer Pep band, the club Women in Business, and a proud sister of Zeta Tau Alpha, a sorority here on campus. As your CEO Apprentice, I hope to work with Megan and help better the experience for both the new members and the returning members. I can’t wait to see you all at band camp. Go Flyers! Feel free to add me on Facebook or email me if you have any questions at all!
Hi Pride of Dayton! My name is Brandon Davy and I will be a sophomore this coming year at UD. I am from the sunny Los Angeles, California (the Ohio weather still freaks me out). Here at UD I will be majoring in Marketing and Management Information Systems. I have been a trumpet player and a bugler for 9 years now and have been marching for the past 5 years. My journey as a musician has taken me all across the United States and even to the streets of Castellon, Spain where I marched and performed on stage during their Festival de Magdelena in 2015. Along with POD, I am also a member of the Flyer Pep Band, The National Society of Leadership and Success and the Marianist Leadership Scholars. I look forward to meeting and getting to know all of the new members! Joining POD was the best decision I made my freshman year of college and it let me meet some amazing people and get to know the campus and culture of UD ahead of time. If you have any questions about the Pride of Dayton or life at UD you can find me on Facebook or shoot me an email. Thanks!
Hey band! This is James Connair, this year’s section leader of the awesome mellophone section. I’m a junior Electical Engineering major from Kettering, OH (just south of Dayton, if you’re not familiar with the area). Besides POD, I’m also a member of the Flyer Pep Band, which is a very fun, high energy way to support our basketball team. I also work as a campus mailman and as a music minister. In my free time (which is sparing) I like to keep active by biking, throwing a frisbee, or going rock climbing. I can’t wait for an awesome season of POD, filled with lots of great music. If you have any questions (about POD or college in general) feel free to email me. I had plenty of questions my first year, so I am happy to return the favor.
Hey everybody! My name is Dylan Long and I’m the trombone section leader. I’m a senior biology major and chemistry minor with a focus in veterinary medicine. I’m from Piqua, OH, which is less than an hour away from Dayton. Joining POD was the greatest decision I’ve ever made. Besides being a part of POD, I’m also in the Flyer Pep Band, Chi Rho, and I’m the President of To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) UChapter. I can’t wait to see my fellow POD members and meet all the new rookies! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions by email or find me on Facebook.
Hey Buritoness! My name is Maggie Moran and I will be your Baritone Section Leader. I am from Cleveland area, specifically Fairview Park and this will be my third year in POD, meaning I am a Junior! I am majoring in Psychology/Biology/Pre-med with a minor in Criminal Justice. I go to Wright State, but I am involved in Flyer Pep Band, Concert Band, as well as TWLOHA at Wright State and a few bands there! I hope to bring friendship and guidance to those who need it in not only the section, as well as all of POD. If anybody has any questions or needs to get in contact with me.
Hello everybody, my name is Adam Knox, and I'm beyond words for how excited I am for the upcoming season as the Sousaphone section leader! Hello, my name is Brandon Long. I am a commuter student from Troy, Ohio, this is my sixth year in POD and I will be the low brass captain for POD this year. Hey guys! My name is Ashlyn Fridrich and I am excited to be one of your sections leaders this year. I am a senior Mechanical Engineering major with a Spanish minor from Richfield, OH (in between Cleveland and Akron and close to a great Swensons location). Outside of POD, I am involved in The Flyer Pep Band, Winter Drumline, and Society of Women Engineers. I also like to kill time playing sports, spending time with friends and family, being outside, and just having lots of fun. I can’t wait to meet the rookies and welcome back the vets, and am looking forward to a great season! Feel free to contact me by email or find me on Facebook if you have questions about anything, POD-related or not.
'Sup, diddle choir! I'm Ian Mortensen, one of your drumline section leaders. I'm a senior music major with a jazz studies concentration from Cedarville, Ohio. I play snare in POD, but drum set is my home base. I perform in wind ensemble, percussion ensemble, the Dayton Jazz Ensemble, and jazz combo. I also play for a local band called the Johnson Treatment. In addition to HS and college band, my marching experience includes one season (2015) on the snare line with the Racine Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps of Racine, Wisconsin. I'm also a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (PMA), the men's music fraternity. I can't wait to start laying down the beats with y'all. If you have questions about POD, drumming, other ensembles, drum corps, music major life, music theory, or PMA, I'd love to help you out. Remember to always keep improving. When you get better, the group gets better!
Hi POD! My name is Sema Kazemi and I will be your auxiliary captain and auxiliary representative this year. This is my fourth year in POD and I can't wait for a great season! I'm a senior chemical engineering major from Hilliard, Ohio and a sister of Sigma Alpha Iota. I spent this past winter guard season with Phoenix Independent Open and I'm currently on tour having so much fun with The Colts Drum & Bugle Corps. I have also marched with O2 World Class Winter Guard, O3, and Hilliard Darby High School. I love cats and in my free time I love going on adventures. Any questions or anything needed and I'd be happy to help!
