Sections & Leadership 2016-2017

Meet the 2016-2017 section leaders. They are here to help you have a great season!

Drum Majors

AdaHello, POD! My name is Ada Pariser and I am grateful and honored to serve as one of YOUR drum majors this fall. I am from Crestwood, Kentucky (don’t look it up on a map – it’s too small to be on one). As a junior pre-med major interested in working with medically underserved populations, I am an intern with the National Rural Health Association in Washington, DC this summer. I have been playing the clarinet for nine years and served as a high school drum major for three years; additionally I have worked on the IMPACT staff for the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy for two years. My passion for bringing together the strengths of individuals to create a greater whole is what drives me to be a servant leader for the Pride of Dayton. I look forward to getting to know each of you; but enough about me! If you ever have questions about POD, UD life, anything else, or you need someone to laugh/cry/pray with, feel free to contact me. Going in to band camp be sure to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! And don’t forget that SPF! I look forward to learning and growing from my encounters with each of you. See you soon!

ZachHey, POD! I hope your summer has been nice and relaxing so far. My name is Zach Zielinski and I am extremely excited to be one of your drum majors this upcoming fall! I am a Sophomore music education student from Chicago, Illinois. Previously, I served as a high school drum major for two years and marched mello all of my other years. I started on the sax in 4th grade and switched to french horn my Junior year of high school. Horn is still my primary instrument, but I do enjoy going back to my roots to play sax in jazz band. For the little time I have that isn’t band, I enjoy hanging out with friends, tossing around a frisbee, and sleeping. If you have any questions about POD or you just want someone to talk to about college, please do not hesitate to contact me! My advice to you: Make sure to get as much sleep as possible before the school year starts, and wear sunscreen! I can’t wait to meet you all! PS. Make sure you always have a good picture of yourself handy so you don’t end up like me… Zach Zielinski

AlexMy name is Alexander Paschal, and I am a Junior Chemical Engineering major with minors in Business Administration and Materials Engineering. This will be my third year in the Pride of Dayton, and alongside Kevin Eberle, I am one of POD’s Saxophone Section Leaders. I also play Saxophone in a couple of ensembles at UD other than POD (those ensembles would be Symphonic Wind Ensemble, University Concert Band, and the Flyer Pep Band). I might be in Dayton nine months out of the year, but I still call St. Charles home, which is a city about 45 minutes west of Chicago. Also, I am a brother of and I hold the Sergeant at Arms position in UD’s chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (Phi Mu Alpha is a Men’s Music Fraternity). I’m thrilled for another season of POD and I look forward to seeing all of you in August. If you have any questions about anything (and I mean anything) whether it be POD related or not, feel free to email me or find me on Facebook and message me there (you’ll get a faster response from an email though).

Trumpets

AnthonyHey trumpets! My name is Anthony Maiorano and I am one of your section leaders. I am from Clayton, Ohio (Dayton for those who don't know where that is) and a Senior Mechanical Engineering major with an Aerospace minor. This will be my fifth year marching… yes I said fifth year. I enjoyed the last four years so much I decided to take a victory lap. Actually, over the past 3 years I’ve been alternating from being an engineering co-op/intern at Regal Beloit and taking classes at UD. Anyway, both I and my fellow section leaders are excited to meet the new members and prove that no one can match the trumpet section. I enjoy playing volleyball, doing puzzles, reading, and spending time with family. Anyway, I am the one who always has a smile glued to his face. (And yes I'm Italian!)

BrandonHi Pride of Dayton! My name is Brandon Davy and I will be a sophomore this coming year at UD. I am from the sunny Los Angeles, California (the Ohio weather still freaks me out). Here at UD I will be majoring in Marketing and Management Information Systems. I have been a trumpet player and a bugler for 9 years now and have been marching for the past 5 years. My journey as a musician has taken me all across the United States and even to the streets of Castellon, Spain where I marched and performed on stage during their Festival de Magdelena in 2015. Along with POD, I am also a member of the Flyer Pep Band, The National Society of Leadership and Success and the Marianist Leadership Scholars. I look forward to meeting and getting to know all of the new members! Joining POD was the best decision I made my freshman year of college and it let me meet some amazing people and get to know the campus and culture of UD ahead of time. If you have any questions about the Pride of Dayton or life at UD you can find me on Facebook or shoot me an email. Thanks!

Mellophones

JamesHey band! This is James Connair, this year’s section leader of the awesome mellophone section. I’m a junior Electical Engineering major from Kettering, OH (just south of Dayton, if you’re not familiar with the area). Besides POD, I’m also a member of the Flyer Pep Band, which is a very fun, high energy way to support our basketball team. I also work as a campus mailman and as a music minister. In my free time (which is sparing) I like to keep active by biking, throwing a frisbee, or going rock climbing. I can’t wait for an awesome season of POD, filled with lots of great music. If you have any questions (about POD or college in general) feel free to email me. I had plenty of questions my first year, so I am happy to return the favor.

Ian'Sup, diddle choir! I'm Ian Mortensen, one of your drumline section leaders. I'm a senior music major with a jazz studies concentration from Cedarville, Ohio. I play snare in POD, but drum set is my home base. I perform in wind ensemble, percussion ensemble, the Dayton Jazz Ensemble, and jazz combo. I also play for a local band called the Johnson Treatment. In addition to HS and college band, my marching experience includes one season (2015) on the snare line with the Racine Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps of Racine, Wisconsin.
