Dear 2017 ORCS Competitors,
Congratulations, and welcome to the Hamilton Ohio Opening Round Championship Series! On behalf of the University of Dayton Mock Trial and Pre-Law Programs, and the University of Dayton College of Law, we welcome you to Butler County, Ohio, and its beautiful Government Services Center. We are happy to have the ORCS return here to Hamilton, now with a new host. We will strive to meet the standards set by this ORCS in years past, and will have the facilities and judges that ORCS competitors have come to expect from this level of tournament.
The ORCS is always intense. Only six of the twenty-four talented teams in this field will advance to AMTA’s National Championship, held this year in Los Angeles, California, and hosted by UCLA. Despite the competitive intensity, however, we must also appreciate that this is a competition in which we respect each other as competitors and colleagues, just as we expect those who practice law to create an environment of professionalism and respect.
No tournament is orchestrated without the unselfish and dedicated work of many. To that end, I give my heartfelt thanks to the Dayton coaching staff who, even with students in competition, are invaluable in making the ORCS run efficiently and smoothly: Jon Marshall, Jade Smarda, and Dan Haughey. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the University of Dayton’s undergraduate chapter of Phi Alpha Delta, who are our runners and administrative volunteers this weekend.
Everyone, enjoy the tournament!
