Dr. Falko Ueckerdt: Visiting Scholar

In early 2016, HSI hosted an international scholar, Dr. Falko Ueckerdt from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). He worked with Research Director Bob Brecha on a project looking at the integration of fluctuating renewable energy sources into existing electricity grids, in addition to providing guest lectures across campus and completing his own research with PIK colleagues.

Michael Bashaw: Visiting Artist

Michael Bashaw at MEECThe Dayton-based sculptor, musician, arts educator and environmental activist Michael Bashaw joined HSI as Visiting Sustainability Artist for the 2015-16 academic year.  Michael contributed to individual courses, and numerous experiential learning efforts, including work with the Rivers Institute and the Marianist Environmental Education Center (MEEC). Michael also worked with students, faculty and staff on two temporary installations. The first occurred during Sustainability Week on the Central Mall, where Michael worked with 50+ students over the course of 1 day to install an interactive sculpture, reflecting on the use of disposable plastic water bottles  on campus. The second capped his year of focus on climate change.  "CHANGE," involved more than 70 students over several weeks in implementing this installation at ArtStreet.  Learn more about Michael's year at UD (pdf) >
