Bach’s Cello Suites are among the most beloved and moving of Baroque works, and Ashley Bathgate takes them on with new vitality. Described as “a glorious cellist“ (The Washington Post) who combines “bittersweet lyricism along with ferocious chops” (New York Magazine), this young artist is among the most celebrated of the country’s rising musicians. With music degrees from Bard College and the Yale School of Music, Bathgate is a member of the award winning, internationally acclaimed sextet, Bang on a Can All-Stars. In this program, Bathgate will perform selections of classic Bach, as well as from the recently commissioned “Bach Unwound” Project, which features compositions by the contemporary composers’ collective known as Sleeping Giant.
LEARN MORE: Join Bathgate after the concert for brief commentary and a Q&A session about Bach over the ages.
