ANAT COHEN TENTET

Musical Director Oded Lev-Ari

“…she is the real deal.”  -The New York Times

The celebrated jazz clarinetist Anat Cohen reinvents herself yet again, this time with a tentet of collaborators, some old, some new.  Cohen weaves an exuberant, arresting tapestry of sound, using a rich, distinctive instrumentation around her clarinet: cello, piano, trumpet, baritone sax, trombone, bass, vibraphone, guitar, accordion, and drums.  When Cohen premiered the collective last spring at the Jazz Standard, one reviewer described the experience “…like being a guest at a secret soiree, where the sense of fun is contagious and swing is seriously the thing.”  (Downbeat).  The Tentet promises to be an even bigger expression of Cohen’s “enthralling” playing (The New Yorker).  Supported by Cityfolk JazzNet Legacy Endowment.

Anat Cohen and musical director Oded Lev-Ari will release their first Tentet album, Happy Song, in Fall 2017.  The CD as well as a live concert at the University of Dayton will feature James Shipp (vibes/percussion); Rubin Kodheli (cello); Nadje Noordhuis (trumpet/flugelhorn); Nick Finzer (trombone); Owen Broder (baritone sax/bass clarinet); Vitor Gonçalves (piano/accordion); Sheryl Bailey (guitar); Tal Mashiach (bass); and Anthony Pinciotti (drums).
