Understanding the opioid epidemic is a one-hour PBS documentary that traces the causes behind the unprecedented growth in prescription opioid use and the corresponding devastating impact. Because the symposium will not focus on how the opioid epidemic developed, but will jump right into innovative models for understanding and treating addiction, this documentary will provide a good orientation to this complex problem.

Join us for a viewing and a short discussion following which will be facilitated by Dr. Sabrina Neeley of the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.

Additional Resources

Another great primer for the symposium is a five episode series of podcasts called The Fix.  In this series, GroundTruth reporting fellows who are recent graduates of CUNY’s Graduate School of Journalism visit areas in New York to explore the causes and the responses to the opioid epidemic.
