Arts Events: September 2017

This month's Bluegrass Festival Evening features the music of Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers as well as commentary and performance by University of Dayton faculty, the UD World Music Choir and Centerville High School alternative string students. Enjoy this evening of entertainment and other inspiring arts experiences during the upcoming weeks.

Exhibit: ‘Ex Oriente Lux’: Marian Art of Asia
Monday, June 26-Friday, September 8 in the Marian Library Gallery. With the exception of famous artists such as Japan’s Sadao Watanabe and China’s He Qi, the variety and originality of Asian religious art isn’t well-known in the Western world. This exhibit attempts to expand our view of Asian Marian art with pieces drawn from the Marian Library.

Thursday, Aug. 24 - Friday, Sep. 1 in the Radial Gallery, Fitz Hall, 4th floor. During regular gallery hours. An exhibit of work by new faculty and staff in the department of art and design.

Figure Drawing Group Exhibition
Friday, Sep. 1 at Index, a University of Dayton project space located in the Front Street Buildings in downtown Dayton. An exhibition from the figure drawing student group, Department of Art and Design.

Thursday, Sep. 7 - Thursday, Sep. 21 in the Radial Gallery, Fitz Hall, 4th floor. During regular gallery hours. An exhibit of recent work by adjunct faculty in the department of art and design.

Exhibit: It Is Time to Effect a Revolution: Selections from the Rose Rare Book Collection and University of Dayton Collections
Wednesday, Sep. 13 - Monday, Oct. 9 in the Roesch Library First Floor Gallery. During regular library hours. A special exhibition of rare books from the private collections of Stuart and Mimi Rose and the University of Dayton Libraries connects to the themes of the international conference Feminisms and Rhetorics. A selection of Heinrich Böll materials is highlighted by the Graul Chair in Arts and Languages and professor emeritus Robert Conard.

Family Weekend Mass
Sunday, Sep. 17, 10 - 11 a.m. in the Frericks Center. This Eucharistic celebration for UD students, families and the entire campus community features music from a Liturgical Mass by Gian-Carlo Menotti, with the Chapel’s Liturgical Choir and the University Chorale.

Bluegrass Festival Evening
Wednesday, Sep. 20, 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Union Ballroom. Hosted by Bluegrass historian and University of Dayton faculty member, Fred Bartenstein, this event features performances by local area musicians and music students.

Trio Pardessus
Thursday, Sep. 21, 8 - 9:30 p.m. in Sears Recital Hall, Jesse Philips Humanities Center. A guest artist recital featuring Trio Pardessus (Tina Chancey, Annalisa Pappano and Joanna Blendulf).

Ordinary Time
Thursday, Sep. 28 - Thursday, Oct. 26 in the Radial Gallery, Fitz Hall, second floor. During regular gallery hours. An exhibition of the artwork of Kate Kern, curated by Jayne Matlack Whitaker.
