UD Sales Center Team Defends Title

The UD Sales Center Team headed to Illinois State University on February 28 to defend their Individual Champion title at the 2nd Annual Redbird Regional Sales Competition. Last year, the team also earned the 1st Runner Up Team Award.

Taking the challenge to heart, Juniors Nick Barrett and Matt Martin took home the Individual Champion and 1st Individual Runner-Up awards, respectively, and Katie Payne was an Individual Semifinalist. Senior Tanner Marklay rounds out the team, and senior Molly Crabtree served as Student Sales Coach.

With Head Coach Tony Krystofik by their side, the team competed against the 15 other invited top university sales programs. Marklay emphasized the hard work that goes into competing. “We practiced for about 15 hours a week for 4 weeks. This competition has not only been a valuable learning experience, but is now a great memory.” He also spoke for the entire team in regard to working with Krystofik. “It so great to learn from him, with all his years of sales experience to pass down to us.”

The entire team and their coaches appreciate the work that goes into hosting such a prestigious event. Payne admits to slight pre-competition jitters, but in the end it all came down to doing what they practiced. “Illinois State put on such a great, well-organized competition. It’s such a rush to walk in and see all the amazing teams you’re competing against. In the end, we did what we had to do and our hard work paid off!”

The team continues to train in preparation for the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC) coming up on March 29-April 1. Sophomore Dominic Wyatt will also attend as an Alternate. This will be the UD Sales Team’s 12th consecutive trip to the NCSC.
