Lalanne Series - Regina Mauck

By Victoria Schoen

Our next Lalanne teacher is Regina Mauck. Regina is 23 years old and she is from Elkhart, Indiana. She graduated from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. Regina is a part of the Cleveland Lalanne community (CleveLanne) and she teaches at Cleveland Central Catholic High School during the school year. This is her second year in the Lalanne program. Here are Regina’s answers to the interview questions:

What is your favorite subject to teach? Art, Ceramics

What is your favorite subject to learn? Art, Ceramics

What is the one most important thing that you want your students to learn from you or take away from your teaching? Art matters and the art they create is all beautiful and unique and has some sort of meaning.

Who is your role model? Describe them: My mother is my role model. She is dedicated to her children, her husband, and most importantly her faith.

How were you inspired to become a teacher? When I finished high school I knew I wanted to study art in college. During my freshman year of college I decided to take an education class on a whim to see if I liked it. When I was working on my 40 hours for the semester I realized how much I loved working with the children and helping them learn about art and helping them with any problems they had in class.

Why did you decide to become a teacher? I became a teacher because I wanted to help students to find their own individual passion for art while also seeing how fun art can be.

Why do you want to teach in Catholic schools? I want to give back to the schools that helped form me when I was growing up. I attended only Catholic schools all my life and I can see where these schools help students to form meaningful relationships with teachers, students, and God.

What are three fun facts about you? I am one of 8 children. I danced for 16 years. When I was in preschool I lead a pack of fellow preschoolers to pet a raccoon because I thought it was Miko from Pocahontas.

If you could teach anywhere in the world where would you teach? I would like to go to Asia, Africa, or Australia to teach art to the children there and experience the culture.

Here is what others have to say about Regina:
