Meet the Staff Series - Karin Forsthoefel

Our first blog team member for you to learn more about is Karin Forsthoefel. Karin is a sophomore, Intervention Specialist (Education) major from Columbus, Ohio. We asked Karin a few interview questions about herself and her answers are below:

What do you do at the CCE? I enjoy writing random topic posts, because I am often inspired by the Holy Spirit to share my learning and faith experiences eagerly! I also edit other writer’s posts, with the gift of wisdom granted by God’s grace. I work with the blog team to schedule writers, series, editors, and brainstorm ideas for the expansion of our blog!

Why did you join the Blog Team? I am passionate for my Catholic faith and for sharing my faith with others, and I love giving testimony to Truth through my experiences and learning.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I love thinking—just sitting peacefully, listening to piano music, and letting my brain unwind. I love doing this in Adoration, or outside in God’s creation. I enjoy learning, so I read the news or read books I should be reading for my classes. I like watching movies and Netflix, dancing wildly to the song that is stuck in my head that day, and walking on a cool, sunny day.

Why do you support Catholic Education? I support Catholic Education because I believe it is focused on the whole person—one’s spiritual growth, emotional, physical, and social well-being, as well as intellectual growth. I believe there is a true meaning and order behind these realms of growth, because it is all justified and supported in Scripture. The very Word of God directs Catholic Education entirely, and I like that this form of education depends on the very being that created this miraculous planet and the creatures on it, so that we are even able to love and be loved. It is a blessing that there is a lasting Truth behind educating in the Catholic faith, and this kind of education allows for a person to develop a fulfilling life and live in harmony with others as we are created to do.

What Catholic Education topic are you most passionate about? I am most passionate about children, and how educators must carefully expose children to the faith so that children can understand and make the faith their own. I think it is so important that educators attend to a child’s soul, because this will allow the child to be so loving, already full of love for God and for the child’s own self, already having a sense of value and dignity.

Who is your role model? Describe him/her/them: One of my role models is a woman named Amber. She is a mother, a friend, and an educator. She takes such loving care of her family of four children, and she is humbled by the pure love that her children pour out for God and for others. It amazes me that she allows God to humble her through her own children. She exemplifies Mary so well. She is so gentle and comforting. Her voice is like an angel when she listens and speaks to others and she is never focused on her own needs or wants. She is a best friend to many people and takes every piece of her life as a gift to thank God for, and a journey that she must share with others. This is something I forget to do because I can become very caught up in what is expected of me. Amber is always looking outwards to what she can do for others, and how she can share with others.

Tell us three fun facts about you: I am a middle child, I love cheesecake, and I dream to someday go on a wild safari (an authentic one…in the wild).

As you can see, Karin is an amazing person that is so on fire with the love of Christ. She is a great writer that is able to show her passion in the words that she expresses on paper. I encourage all of you to read the other blog posts that she has written about educators being protectors of life and child-like love. You can find the links to those posts on the bottom of this page. Please keep Karin in your prayers, that she may continue to be inspired by Christ’s love as she studies to become a teacher.
