Meet the Staff Series - Rhonda Mercs

We would like to introduce you to another one of our incredible staff members at the Center for Catholic Education! Rhonda Mercs is the Director of the Urban Child Development Resource Center (UCDRC) and she has been with us for 8 years now. Rhonda has lived in Kettering, Ohio for the majority of her life and she received her BS as well as her MS degree from Wright State University. Here are Rhonda’s responses to our interview questions...


Describe your family:  I married my high school sweetheart and we just celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary. I have four children, 3 daughters and 1 son. My three daughters are currently attending UD. My son is a sophomore in high school.  My family means the world to me.


What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I am active in my children’s activities at school (Band Booster President, After Prom Committee). I love being involved with their school. I love to go camping and taking long walks.


What Catholic Education topic are you most passionate about? I am very passionate about urban Catholic Schools.


Why do you look forward to coming to work every day? Making a difference in children’s lives.


What is one piece of advice you would give to Catholic Educators? Take time to understand what life experiences have made the child who they are today.


Who is your role model? Describe him/her/them: My mother was an amazing strong woman.   

Tell us three fun facts about you: I love camping, dancing, and cruising.
