Law Alumni News: July 2015

Gudorf Law Group, LLC has appointed managing attorney, Ted Gudorf '86, to a three-year position on the Life Essentials Baord of Directors. Life Essentials is a 501 (c) (3) organization which focuses on helping adults with mental illness by providing advocacy services. Gudorf has the distinction of being the first attorney in Ohio to obtain a master of laws degree in estate planning and elder law. He is one of only 152 Ohio State Bar Association Board Certified Specialists in estate planning, trust and probate law.

Timothy W. Kelly '78, principal in the law firm of Kelly Law Offices, with offices in Bloomington, Ill., Chicago and Washington, D.C., has been elected as third vice president of the Illinois Bar Foundation (IBF), the charitable arm of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA). The foundation raises funds for distribution to Illinois nonprofit organizations whose mission is to provide free legal services to those with limited means. It also provides assistance to lawyers who can no longer support themselves due to incapacity. In 2015 the foundation took on the responsibility of a statewide expansion of the Illinois Justice Corps to provide trained part-time student volunteers to serve as guides in courthouses. This year the foundation will distribute more than $850,000.

Kelly, who concentrates his practice in personal injury and medical malpractice actions, serves on the IBF board. He is a Gold Fellow, as well as immediate past chair, of the IBF Fellows Program. Active in the ISBA, he is a former chairperson of the Civil Practice and Procedure and Tort Law section councils, and a former member of the ISBA Assembly.

A past member of the board of directors of the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, Kelly served on the board of managers of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and, from January 2014 to June 2015, chaired the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice.

Western region alumni held a local mixer in California that included Dayton Law grad, Darrell Padgette '98. If you would like to organize or attend local alumni events, please contact lawalumni@udayton.edu.
