Pope Francis, Latin America and Our Lady

By Andrew J. Kosmowski

Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Ecuador, Bolivia, and Paraguay from July 5-12, 2015.

The Pope traveled to Ecuador July 5-8 then to Bolivia from July 8-10. On July 9, Pope Francis visited La Paz and met with President Morales. Did you know that on July 9, 1548, the city of La Paz was founded by the Spanish? Its full name is “Ciudad de Nuestra Señora de la Paz” (City of Our Lady of Peace), and thus is named after the Blessed Virgin Mary. Pope Francis will end his pilgrimage in Paraguay July 10-12.

In honor of his pilgrimage, we at the Marian Library would like to show some of our artwork from these countries. The images shown are from our collection of Marian statues.
