The Heart of a Child

Epinal images give a special place to the child. Influeneced by the signs of the time, namely to new understanding of the child's identity and development, the spirituality of Romanticism proposes to the believer to develop the heart of a child. Be a child of Mary and you will have the heart of the child Jesus.

The Sleep of Jesus (Sommeil de Jésus) in this exhibit illustrates this spiritual attitude. If you entrust yourself to Mary, be assured of her affectionate care. You may rest peacefully. You will grow in wisdom and love as Jesus did. One of the prominent examples of this spirituality was Saint Therese of the Child Jesus (1872-1897). All she ever wanted was to be the little flower of Jesus. Her method was simple, but the most challenging of all: make the ordinary with extraordinary love.
