Chua to serve on CRC
Sister Celia Chua, M.I.C., visiting professor at the International Marian Research Institute, has accepted the nomination to become a member of the Theological Commission of the Canadian Religious Conference. Her reaction is best described in her own words:
My name was suggested to become a member of the Theological Commission of the Canadian Religious Conference (CRC). It was only after almost a year, October 2016, that I received, officially, the nomination from the President of the CRC. Why did I say yes? After much time of reflection, I considered that the time has come for me to contribute and share my expertise and experience of being a woman, Asian theologian-Mariologist in the Canadian Catholic Church. I always believed that faith and culture go together in the evangelization work and especially in the ministry of Catholic Education. The Canadian Church is on the road of actualizing the universal face of the Church. With its diversity, interdisciplinary and multicultural society, the church is facing significant challenges both in theological thinking, including Mariology, and also in practices. On October 14, 2016, I met members of the theological commission which is composed of nine members namely five from Quebec Province, two from Ontario, one from Atlantic Provinces and one from the Western provinces. It is in deep solidarity and communion that we walk, think and act with the Catholic Church and God’s people.
