From the Marian Treasure Chest

Brother John Samaha sent us the text below with the following comments: "Below are some thoughts about the Three O'clock Prayer to consider during Lent."

An Ideal Lenten Prayer by Brother John Samaha, S.M.

The Three O'clock Prayer has been popularized by Blessed William Joseph Chaminade and Marianist religious, laity, and schools since the early nineteenth century. The prayer has been slightly revised over the years, and the original author is unknown.  While intended for daily use, it is especially appropriate for Lent.

The Three O'Clock Prayer

Lord Jesus,

we gather in spirit at the foot of the Cross

with your Mother and the disciple whom you loved.

We ask your pardon for our sins

which are the cause of your death.

We thank you for remembering us

 in that hour of salvation

and for having given us Mary as our Mother.

Holy Virgin, take us under your protection

and open us to the action of the Holy Spirit.

Saint John, obtain for us

the grace of taking Mary into our lives, as you did,

and of assisting her in her mission.   Amen.

May the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit

be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

Below is a Zenit translation of Pope Francis' address to participants in the General Chapter of the Marian Clerics of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday in the Vatican. The General Chapter is underway in Rome from February 5-25, 2017:

* * *

Dear brothers, I am happy to meet with you on the occasion of your General Chapter and I greet you warmly, beginning with the Superior General, whom I thank for his words. In you I greet the entire congregation, committed to serving Christ and the Church in twenty countries of the world....

I entrust to your Mother and Patroness, Mary Immaculate, your journey of faith and growth, in constant union with Christ and with His Holy Spirit, who renders you witnesses of the power of the Resurrection. To you here present, to the whole Congregation and to your lay collaborators I impart my heartfelt Apostolic Blessing.

Notre-Dame de la Garde and Marseille filmed 360 ° thanks to a drone (Le Huffington Post) October 5, 2016

Superb images give a rare glimpse of Marseille. Filmed by the team of DroneCast, the aerial shots that you can see in this video were put online Sunday, September 8th.

One can see the Phocaean city from one of its most symbolic places, the basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde. Better known as the "Bonne Mère" by the Marseillais, its golden statue offers a magnificent panorama on the Old Port….

Click here to watch the 2 1/2-minute video on Vimeo, here to read the complete article in the original French, or here for more information about the basilica in French.
