Signboards for Chaminade by Brother John Samaha, S.M.

Members of the Marianist Family are called to be signboards for Blessed William Joseph Chaminade, our father in living the Christian life, and our saintly Marianist forebears.

How much do you know about Joseph (the name he preferred) Chaminade? How familiar are you with him? Are you still learning about him? Do you welcome opportunities to talk about him and to explain him to others?

Generally we know well the basic information of our natural family members. We know about prominent persons in the news--facts about political figures and sports figures and others. All the more should we be familiar with the details of the lives of our Founder and Marianist "saints."

We tend to talk about subjects we like and persons we admire. How much do we know about the life and works of  Chaminade and his cause for canonization? For what is he noted? What is the status of his canonization process? What's our level of Marianist family pride? What do we do to advance it? What can we do? Obviously we need to do more.

Progress simply does not happen without our effort. We need to work on it. If Chaminade and his cause are not well known, we are partially responsible. We need to work with God and with each other to produce results.

What can we do individually and communally? What are our Marianist Family responsibilities? We are expected to cultivate interest in our Founder and his cause, to expand our interest and understanding, to look for opportunities to explain and to respond to questions.

Let us rise to the challenge to learn more and to spread the word. Let us be signboards for Blessed William Joseph Chaminade.

Cardinal calls for consecration of Mexico to Immaculate Heart of Mary (Catholic News Agency) April 10, 2018

Facing violence, poverty and corruption, Mexico should be consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, said Archbishop Emeritus Juan Sandoval Íñiguez of Guadalajara.

"In face of the tribulations our country is currently going through, and the need we have for a good government, a suggestion occurs to me: that our bishops of Mexico consecrate the country on May 13, the date of the first apparition of Our Lady of Fatima, to the Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary; and that each bishop do the same in his own diocese," he said in a recent video released by El Universal.

He recalled that the Virgin Mary had requested the consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart, in her apparitions to the shepherd children at Fatima....
