Book Suggestion for Mary's Month of May

  • Franciscan Media recommends Mysteries of the Virgin Mary: Living Our Lady's Graces (2010) by Father Peter John Cameron, O.P.  The author offers insights into the many feasts of Mary celebrated by the Church. He also shows you how to see that Mary is always at hand, ready to help you become who you are meant to be.  Father Cameron is the founding editor-in-chief of Magnificat and the artistic director of Blackfriars Repertory Theatre in New York City.

From the Marian Treasure Chest

Brother John Samaha, S.M., sent us the text below.

Tribute to Saint Joseph, the Worker by Brother Joe Barrish, S.M.

I never think of Joseph

--As some artists seem to do--

With peach and cream complexion

                            And eyes of baby blue.

For Joseph was a real man

                            And certainly you would find

                       Far more than cutesy ringlets

                            On his God-directed mind.

                       Joseph carried more than lilies

He worked with saw and wood

He plied his trade with honor

                             And earned his livelihood.

                       So I salute you Joseph

                            The only of our race

                       Whom God called "Abba!  Daddy!"

                            When Jesus saw your face.

Pope Francis on May 1, 2018, made a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Divine Love to launch the Marian Month and pray the Rosary--in particular for peace in Syria.

"Dear brothers and sisters, the day after tomorrow, May 1, in the afternoon, I will initiate the Marian Month with a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Divine Love," the Holy Father proclaimed after praying the Regina Coeli with the crowds gathered in St. Peter's Square on April 30, 2018.
