Updates
  • Free Syriac Course
  • Father Alex Harb, pastor of Saint Ignatius of Antioch church, the local Maronite parish sent the information below.  Consider this program as a resource for yourself, if appropriate.  Also, feel free to share it with others you think might have an interest.  Though the material is not directly Marian, this course could help one to understand important Patristic, Scriptural, or liturgical texts related to Mary.
  • "Free college level Syriac course. July 16 - Aug 3, 2018 Monday - Friday from 6-9 pm.  Contact info@stiparish.org or 937-428-0372 for more information. Syriac, the most widely written dialect of Aramaic, is a language of great theological importance, both as the language of study to read ten Aramaic chapters of the Old Testament and as the theological and liturgical language of the Maronite, Syriac, Malankara, and Malabara Churches as well as Eddesan and Antiochian Christianity.  Syriac unlocks some of the most profound poetry of the Christian tradition."

From the Marian Treasure Chest

Brother John Samaha, S.M., sent us the text below with the following comments: "Some thoughts about Mary in our lives."

Mary's Mysteries Concern Us by Brother John Samaha, S.M.

God became Man for us.  Baptism brings us faith and the power of the Holy Spirit, the saving action and new creation of Jesus.  Like Mary, we can say "He has done great things for me."  We pledge to serve God and others as Jesus did.  In Baptism we die with Christ so that we may live with His resurrected life.

Death is part of our life.  But death in the life of the Spirit is a transition.  The life of each person in the Church is already a life in the Spirit of Christ.  We know the power of Jesus' resurrection in our hopes, in faith, in the marvelous works of Christ we see around us, in the relationships we develop with others in the Spirit--familial, personal, neighborhood, national, and  international.  As members of the Mystical Body of Christ we change the world this way.

At death our eternal life continues and is fulfilled in our union with Christ.  The Holy Spirit gives us complete life and happiness, the life of God, as the Holy Spirit gave it to Mary at her death.  We too are raised to the heights, the happiness, which God began to give us at Baptism.  What God did for Mary He does for us.

‘US Rosary Coast-to-Coast’ Planned for October (National Catholic Register) July 2, 2018

Remember the Holy League of Nations that Pope St. Pius V formed in 1571, and the result of the battle they engaged in? Their victory at Lepanto on October 7, 1571 was attributed to the Rosary, and the date became the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary.

The new Holy League of Nations is gearing up for another battle this October 7--using only one weapon--the Rosary.

The battleground is not Lepanto, but this entire country, plus other countries also joining in this international Allied effort. It's not named Operation This or That, but very much to the point--the “U.S. Rosary Coast to Coast.” ...
