The Marian Library’s 75th Anniversary Celebration Continues

By Olivia Gillingham, Library Specialist in the Marian Library

The Marian Library opened its 75th anniversary exhibit, #MarianLibrary75, this week. Featuring displays in both the first and seventh floor galleries of Roesch Library, the exhibit traces the history of the Library from its founding to present day, and highlights pieces from many Marian Library collections.

In the first floor gallery, visitors can engage with photos from Marian Library archival collections and text documenting the story of the Library and key figures and events in its development. Also displayed are objects related to the Library’s history including the first book in its collection, issues of Marian Library publications and a Marian Library medal.

The seventh floor gallery gives visitors a taste of Marian Library collections with highlights from its art, rare books, devotional materials, and travel and tourism ephemera among other collections. Just a few of the objects on view are Old Master woodcuts, the Library’s oldest rare book from 1473, a rosary made from shells during World War II, and an early 19th century French photo album.

With its many fascinating collections and extensive resources, the Marian Library has much to offer both the UD and Dayton community. We hope you’ll stop by to learn more and celebrate 75 years with us!

#MarianLibrary75 is open now until October 5. The first floor gallery of Roesch Library is open during normal library hours. The Marian Library, located on the 7th floor of Roesch Library, is open 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please check the libraries' calendar for special open hours and closings.

Free parking passes can be obtained at the visitor parking information center.
