Language Learning Made Easy

Learning a new language requires time and commitment, but starting this year, the University Libraries is offering a new online language learning resource for all members of campus. Transparent Language Online is an easy access language learning tool, allowing users to set their own personal pace to learning a new language. Transparent Language Online prides itself on their motto, “fun programs with serious results”, as what makes this system so great. It’s not just about having an easy resource available, but ensuring that it’s successful for users.

As members of the UD community, creating an account gives you access to the choice of over 100 languages to learn, with most languages having multiple learning options. One hallmark of this tool is its design for learners at any level. Honing in on a combination of instructional approaches, Transparent Language Online offers skill development for listening, speaking, reading and writing in another language. Each language has 11 learning units, comprised of 4 lessons per unit. Over 30 users from campus have accessed the resource already, frequenting languages such as Spanish, French, Italian, Chinese, Arabic and more.

Transparent Language Online was implemented as part of a statewide partnership, Libraries Connect Ohio, which offers resources for libraries to make sure patrons are getting great access to products, that are vetted by librarians. Katy Kelly, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Marketing and Engagement in the Libraries shared, “with so many language learning resources having high price tags, this is a great asset for campus, and offers access to language in a new, creative way.”

The best part: Transparent Language Online also offers an app for iOS or Android users, which makes this tool ready at your fingertips, and accessible from anywhere you go.
