Check Out Staff Picks

The next time you browse our leisure reading collection, you will see small stickers denoting which books library staff recommend (yes, we read a lot).

We are hopeful that the stickers help people browsing pick a good book to read. Some books also have stickers if they were previous selections for the Dayton Big Read program or the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, or if they were written by presenters from UD Speaker Series events.

The leisure reading collection consists of new and noteworthy books including fiction, nonfiction and graphic novels. For information about the books, you can use the online catalog or browse the shelves by the first-floor Knowledge Hub desk and in our first-floor lobby.

Books to read for fun are also pre-loaded on the library Kindles, which are available for checkout. Check the availability of our three Kindles in the catalog or inquire at the Access Services desk.

Can’t find the book you want? Try searching for it using OhioLINK or SearchOhio; it might be available for request from another library in Ohio. Delivery to Roesch Library takes 3 to 4 business days.

Also, there’s no pressure if you don’t like the book you check out. Just return it; they’re all available for free, remember? Libraries are the best!
