Book drive success

This year's Read On! book drive was a HUGE success! Many thanks to our partners for 2016. Those who helped collect books this year include: The Department of Teacher Education, Curriculum Materials Center, The Department of English Social Justice Learning-Living Community (LLC), The Bombeck Center, Bishop Leibold school in Miamisburg and UD's class of 2019 through New Student Orientation and University Libraries.

The Libraries engaged in some friendly competition between departments to collect the most books. The staff and faculty of the Marian Library won by collecting 147 books. They will enjoy a free breakfast as their prize.

A total of 1,200 books were collected this year, surpassing our goal of 1,000 books. These results ensure that 120 young students will have 10 books each to take home for summer reading enrichment. These efforts help reduce the summer slide in reading comprehension by putting books in the hands of children with limited access to reading materials.

For the third year, UD was one of many community partners collecting children's books for the Dayton organization Learn to Earn's annual Read On! book drive. Learn to Earn’s mission is to ensure that children in the our region are successful students and ultimately successful in the world of work. The Read On! book drive goal was to collect 25,000 books to reach 2,500 students this year.
