My Favorite Place To Be In Upstate NY

Most likely if you have heard of Cooperstown New York you have heard of it because that is where the Baseball hall of fame is! There is also the Dreams Park for young baseball players to come and compete in tournaments and improve in their skills! Baseball is my favorite sport to watch in person. I love the atmosphere of being at a game and it is slow enough that I can watch but still zone out and think.

Besides the Hall of Fame it is also a place that I grew up sailing. My parents would put our 23-foot sailboat on Otsego Lake every summer! These are some of my most fond childhood memories.

Cooperstown is also filled with a lot of culture! The Farmer’s Museum recreates rural life from the 19th century through exhibits and interactive workshops! My fondest memory of the Farmers’ Museum is when my Girl Scout Troop would go caroling at Christmas and we would get hot cider as we took a ride on the sleigh around the museum village!

Cooperstown also has the Fennimore Art Museum. The Fennimore Art Museum is a wonderful place filled with landscape paintings and Native American Art. It has the most peaceful café for a quick bite to eat; especially in the summer when we enjoy the beautiful view from the deck that overlooks a very luscious green lawn and Otsego lake!

Hyde Hall is also a place to enjoy wonderful views of the lake from the north end. Hyde Hall, a historic country estate, offers a glimpse into early American life.  Hyde Hall hosts elegant events that imitate an era when the summer season was languid and peaceful. Tea is served overlooking the lake and accompanied by the Glimmerglass Opera’s young musicians. It is like stepping back in time.

I so enjoy music, which I find at the Glimmerglass Opera House! Every year that we are in upstate NY at any point of the summer, my family and I attend at least one opera. It is one of favorite family events we do together! I am looking forward to The Magic Flute this season.

Another of my favorite places in Cooperstown is The Otsego. I absolutely love exploring the hotel and its grounds. The meticulously maintained lawn slopes gently to the lake. We often tie up to the dock and head up to a welcome lunch because the best part of all is the Hawkeye Grill! I love eating here; it is beautiful and a wonderful atmosphere for lunch or dinner!

Cooperstown is a stately town that also holds the memories of our true American sport – baseball. It is a place everyone would enjoy visiting. It is filled with everything needed for a lovely vacation and has charm! For me I not only enjoy the culture and views, but I mostly enjoy the memories from what I think of as my town!
