Field Experience

Hello, there! Today was my first day doing field experience for the lab. For those of you unfamiliar with what that means, it means I was outside planting trees all morning. Believe it or not, I had a great time! I really think I have found my niche in bio. Biology is such an open-ended degree that encompasses such a wide variety of things, and I have been trying to discern what area of bio I want to most actively pursue and it is definitely ecology. I know I really am just learning about the field, but the content is stuff that I have always loved- I just had no idea there was whole field encompassing all of my favorite things!

Anyways, a group of people that work in the lab and a grad student all met at the Science Center this morning to head to the site. We all paired up and planted plots of trees in replacement of invasive honeysuckle that the lab had ripped/cut/hacked out along a stream last fall. I enjoyed getting to meet new people, learn more about ecology, and do something that is good for the Earth! Overall, quite a success. Unfortunately, it started to storm toward the last hour, so we were all muddy and wet, but the rain just made things more interesting.

As for the rest of my day, I napped and have been doing organic chem. homework all day. I forgot to mention that I just started taking organic at Sinclair Community College, but I'll explain all of that another day. Welp, have a great night!
